Use, Management and Conservation of Natural Resources in NW Mexico: Research lines at CIBNOR.
The Centro the Investigaciones Biologicas del Noroeste (CIBNOR) is a federal research institute located in Baja California peninsula, devoted to the study of the natural resources of the NW Mexico, that include the Gulf of California and its islands. The more relevant ecosystems are desert tropical deciduous forest, coastal systems (sand dunes and mangroves) and isolated oceanic inhabited islands at land, as well as rocky and coral subtropical reefs and pelagic fish communities at sea. Our institute is organized in five areas: Marine biology, aquaculture, agriculture in arid zones, Ecology in arid zones and biotechnology. We also have two postgraduate programs with Master and doctoral Degree in: Use, Management and Conservation of Natural Resources and in Fisheries and Aquaculture Bioeconomy. During the talk I will describe some of our main current projects and also the opportunities for students. They can apply for full time grants from the Mexican government. Also in our centre we have a technology and innovation park. In here we develop technological and innovative projects and try to transfer technologies of aquaculture, fisheries, agriculture and sustainability to small pilot business, in order to improve the products and the economy of the region.
