AWI is one of the worlds’ leading polar research organisations and delivers significant contributions to the international research on climate, marine and coastal issues.  It has been involved in international projects for more than 25 years and participated in numerous European FP5, FP6 and FP7 projects and other international collaborations. The value of coastal ecosystems is a special research emphasis in several research divisions. The AWI also actively supports aquaculture research by supporting the start-up foundation of IMARE, a company devoted to aquaculture research.
